Project scope management is about defining what is inside the project and what is outside, and about how the requirements are collected, documented, and managed. It covers planning how scope will be defined and controlled, gathering requirements from stakeholders, turning those requirements into a clear scope statement and a work breakdown structure, and then monitoring and controlling scope changes to keep the project aligned with stakeholder needs. Other knowledge areas focus on different aspects—Integration Management coordinates the project as a whole, Procurement Management handles external purchases, and Quality Management ensures deliverables meet requirements—but they do not centrally address defining the project boundaries and the process of collecting and managing requirements.
